Education is not just about filling a vessel but about kindling a flame.

At Mojave Springs, our Waldorf-inspired grades program is rooted in a balanced blend of solid academics and creative exploration. Each day begins with the Main Lesson, focusing on foundational literacy and numeracy. By Grade 4, history and science become integral parts of the learning journey. These traditional subjects are often explored through project-based learning, allowing children’s curiosity and unique interests to lead their explorations. Our curriculum is further enriched with special subjects, including form drawing, theater, music (flute, violin and singing), handwork, and Spanish.

Recognizing the equal importance of academic and creative subjects, the Waldorf-inspired curriculum provides a holistic foundation that nurtures the whole child. Our screen-free environments emphasize natural materials and are designed with functionality, beauty, and child development in mind. Students spend extended periods outdoors in both structured learning activities and free play to promote a connection to nature and well-being. Further, our curriculum connects students with the greater community with dynamic field trips to the Discovery Children’s Museum, the local Renaissance Fair, the Mojave Center, and local parks.

Our Elementary Curriculum

LANGUAGE & LITERACY

Beyond the basics of reading and writing, students engage with rich stories, myths, and legends that deepen their connection to language. Poetry recitation, dramatic presentations, and choral readings enhance their verbal prowess, fostering a nuanced and vibrant relationship with both spoken and written communication.

MATHEMATICS

Mathematics come alive through stories, projects, and games, always aiming to engage the child’s imagination and intellect. Concepts are introduced through hands-on experiences, using tangible objects and movement to solidify understanding. This method transforms abstract numbers and operations into meaningful narratives and real-world applications.

SCIENCE

Science is grounded in experiential learning. Children engage directly with nature, observing seasonal changes, studying local plants and animals, and exploring their surroundings. Science is phenomenological, focusing on first-hand observations and drawing conclusions from personal experiences. This hands-on, integrated approach fosters a deep appreciation for the natural world.

MUSIC

Melodies fill our classrooms as students learn to sing, play the flute, and violin. These sessions are not just about music, but also about cultivating discipline, collaboration, and appreciation of cultural heritage.

HANDWORK

Crafting is more than a hobby. Through activities including knitting, sewing, and cross-stitch, students develop fine motor skills, patience, and an appreciation for craftsmanship.

VISUAL ARTS

Students dive into form and perspective drawing, painting, and sculpting with materials like beeswax and natural clays. It’s a journey of expressing oneself while mastering artistic techniques.

MOVEMENT

Beyond traditional sports, we focus on rhythm, dance, games, and non-competitive physical activities, ensuring that students remain active and engage in holistic physical development.

HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY

By Grade 4, students embark on a deeper exploration of the past and the world around them, drawing connections between events, cultures, and places with a focus on the local community.

WORLD LANGUAGES

Spanish is woven into our daily curriculum from early childhood and intensifies in the grades, targeting full fluency for a comprehensive linguistic and cultural understanding.

OUTDOORS

Nature is our extended classroom. Students spend significant time outdoors, fostering a deep connection with the environment and understanding the importance of sustainability.

EXPERIENCES

Through planned explorations throughout the year, our students venture beyond the school to connect with the local Las Vegas community. Destinations include the Children’s Discovery Museum, Renaissance Fair, Mojave Center, and various local parks.

PRACTICAL SKILLS

Life skills, from baking bread to gardening, are integral. Students not only learn tasks but also the values of responsibility, care, and community.
